Located at the heart of Matale town opposite the Municipal Council this park, is an oasis of calm amidst the density of Matale. Playing host mainly to shy lovers today, the park is indeed a treasure trove of fauna and flora including purple veralu (olives) a rarity on the island.

A somber monument located in the middle of the road, right opposite the park entrance, pays silent homage to those who lost their lives valiantly defending the kingdom during the rebellion.

The park can be accessed by purchasing a ticket and is an ideal way to spend a couple of hours exploring and wondering. The park shares its border with the Fort MacDowell wall. A memoriam to the park’s benefactor the late MP for Matale, V T Nanayakkara is also to be found
